Over a time span of more than 30 years in business, the TechniPharm team have seen, experienced and learned a few things.
Our observations are that many farmers handling stock work in unsafe and outdated wooden yards and spending a lot of time doing what could be done much faster and safer in modern facilities.
There are still thousands of yard in the country build by bushman in the early days of land reclamation from the bush, many of these yards have a combination of hard wood native timber hand carved post and railing with a combination of some knotted pine rails in areas where there have been breakages or changes made.
Often these yards are a combination of a set off square pens and a long race and in some cases we may see an early design headbail or crush
Many of these yards have earned their keep twice over and served their owners well, till now.
Over the years however farming has changed, we do more yard work, have heavier stock, often there is staff who may not have grown up with stock from a young age and thus lack the sense of imminent danger, but mostly farmers have aged them selves and are not as agile as they use to be. Yet we handle more stock and are acutely aware of the need of performance gains and grazing times. And then there is OSH regulations to adhere to.
With all these factors now in play it is a good time to evaluate where the business productive asset in the form of Cattle Yards can improve the end result.
The design of cattle yards is a very delicate matter, there are many philosophies and as many people who " know the answer" There are many companies in NZ offering " standard off the shelf steel yard systems" some good some bad...
At TechniPharm it's not about the sale of steel , it's about the right design for the farm system, we take great pride in working closely with clients to design a yard and handling system which is going to deliver to them what they need to achieve for the farm in the next 25-50 years.
We use proven animal behaviour science to determine the right dimensions for best flow and best behaviour with the least number of people and the least amount of effort. TechniPharm is not about putting a yard system on every farm in NZ, what we are about is to put the right system in the right place for the right outcomes.
Our team has a wealth of knowledge and a deep understanding of what it means to handle cattle, safely, efficiently and without a lot of effort. In a great design we let the cattle do the wor and let you benefit from the gains made.. make farming ezyView products here

Farm safety is and always has been an issue, many farmers have learned from practical experience and "know the dangers" animals are unpredictable, farm equipment can get caught up in undesirable situations. Maintenance and pre use checks may not always happen when they should. Also many farmers are now on average older and we are engaged in more distractions (Mobile phones for example) With a focus on safety TechniPharm aims to provide some solutions and suggestions to minimise the dangers, we invite you to talk to us and help you where we can add value. for starters a simple 3 point check
1) always check equipment before use, yes that includes animal handling equipment, check the head bail is locking properly , check gate latches are locking, grease where need be and make sure trip hazards are removed or identified.
2) have a look at how you do things, are there better ways of doing it? are staff properly equipped? do you have designated safe area's (we recommend that cattle and people are kept separated when possible, so a handler or headbail open to a pen with stock is not safe)
3) what else can you do? have you considered an upgrade to more relevant up to date design? remember equipment designed in the past is based on what the past determined was "safe" Design and materials may have changed.
Some product and recommendations which may help
1) A Pacifier can help a great deal in keeping stock relaxed so you can do what ever you need to do with stock
2) Headbails with secondary safety locks may just be that extra safety you after, our Rotating yoke Headbail is the only headbail on the market with this feature.
Alternatively large stock units may consider full Hydraulic "hands off" equipped units
Technipharm provides a range of handling systems for Beef, Sheep and Dairy animal handling, we have been in business nearly 30 years and have an experienced team
3) Yard and Handlers with lots of gates and safe access points, properly designed access to headbails and stock treatment area's are critical design "hot" spots
We happy to help you with a handling facilities assessment and provide some recommendations for what needs doing. (base cost time @ $55/hr and travel at Km rate )
